1st October 2010 is anniversary time at HSE. HSE mark 35 years by declaring that it relishes the on going challenge of its safety mission as much today as it did when it was formed in 1974 by the passing of The Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974.

This Act has improved safety performance by more than 70 per cent, and the UK now has one of the best combined health and safety records of any country in the world. Although the reduction in heavy industry in the UK has affected the statistics Safety Professionals can still be proud of this improvement. It is still a sombre fact that 180 people lost their lives at work last year and thousands more suffered early deaths caused by disease and illness related to their work.

HSE’s aim to keep reducing work related deaths and injury goes on and here at Accounting For Safety our passion for inspiring safe working practices is undiminished.

Improve safety awareness and reduce deaths, injuries and losses in your business – contact us for sensible advice, sensible training at silly prices.

My name is Jimmy Tongue. To some my long standing interest in health and safety is on a par to train spotting – to me it is a never ending source of fascination. I hope that I can transmit to you some of my enthusiasm for keeping people safe and that some of that enthusiasm will rub off on you.

I want you to tell me about the safety hazards you spot each day- in the workplace or in the street, where ever you spot them – when, where and what they are. If you have a health and safety story – let me know. If you feel strongly about any health and safety issue – tell me about it. I want to build a picture of every day incidents that may be hazardous. Drop me a line if you can help me? I’d really appreciate it!
